APC Network Management Cards (NMC)
Give your UPS its own IP address for remote management, SNMP monitoring, and enterprise integration.
Network-Enable Your APC UPS
The APC Network Management Card (NMC) transforms your UPS from a standalone device into a network-managed asset. Once installed, the NMC gives your UPS its own IP address, allowing IT administrators to monitor and control the UPS remotely from anywhere on the network.
Key Benefits
- Remote UPS management without physically visiting the device
- Email and SNMP trap notifications for power events
- Data logging and environmental monitoring (with optional sensors)
- Firmware updates applied remotely over the network
- Secure access with HTTPS, SSH, SNMPv3, and RADIUS authentication
The Foundation of Network-Based UPS Management
The Network Management Card is the essential building block for enterprise power management. Each Smart-UPS requires its own dedicated NMC to participate in network-based shutdown, monitoring, and cloud management workflows.
One NMC Per UPS
Every Smart-UPS that you want to manage over the network needs its own Network Management Card. The NMC is a dedicated, one-to-one component — it cannot be shared across multiple UPS units. Plan your deployment accordingly when sizing your infrastructure.
Works With
PowerChute Network Shutdown
The NMC communicates with PowerChute Network Shutdown to orchestrate graceful, sequenced shutdowns of physical servers and virtual machines during extended power outages.

NMC-equipped UPS units can report to the EcoStruxure IT cloud platform for centralized, multi-site monitoring with predictive analytics and mobile access.
Learn MoreNMC + PowerChute Network Shutdown = Network-Based Graceful Shutdowns
The NMC monitors the UPS in real time and communicates with a separate server running PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS). Together, they provide automated, network-based protection for your entire server infrastructure.
The Shutdown Workflow
Power Fails
The UPS switches to battery. The NMC detects the outage and begins its countdown timer.
NMC Signals PCNS
The NMC sends a network signal to the PowerChute Network Shutdown server to begin the shutdown sequence.
Graceful Shutdown
PCNS orchestrates sequenced shutdowns of physical servers and VMs. VMs can be migrated to unaffected hosts first.
Auto Restart
When power is restored, the NMC powers the UPS back on and PCNS can trigger automatic server and VM restarts.
Virtual Machine Support
- VM Migration: During an extended outage, VMs can be live-migrated to hosts powered by unaffected UPS units before shutdown begins.
- Sequenced Shutdown: VMs are shut down in a configurable order, ensuring dependent services (databases, domain controllers) go last.
- Automatic Restart: After power is restored and the host server reboots, VMs are restarted in the correct sequence automatically.
